£77m To Be Spent By Cameron On Cycling In England Cities

Doesn’t that sound great? Few people would begrudge Cameron spending that much money to benefit us poor plebs in these days of austerity. Well we would but you had guessed that already.

So why are we such a miserable bunch when Off-Shore is trying his best? Let’s look where this money is going to be spent.

  • Manchester
  • Bristol
  • Leeds
  • Cambridge
  • Birmingham
  • Oxford

We can’t help noticing that all of these have very good public transport systems. Buses, park and rides and more are flying here, there and everywhere to all corners of the cities. So on top of this they are then going to get cash to sort out an additional cycling scheme.

In rural Dorset a lot of us ask, “What is a bus?” Public Transport is driving your own car between the villages and towns in Dorset. A cycling scheme that really helped cyclists would plug a great gap in the area but we are getting bugger all. You would have thought our local MP, Oliver ‘toss it in the park bin’ Letwin, would have been fighting hard for funding and maybe he did. It doesn’t look like it.

To be fair to Dorset C.C. they have spent some money recently on cycle-lanes in Dorchester but there is very little evidence they are used much. It is not that the local cyclists ignore them; it is more of a case they find it hard to get to the little strip of track they have put down!

So, yet again, under Off-Shore Cameron the South and South West are totally ignored.

There is some additional money going to four National Parks, New Forest, Peak District, South Downs and Dartmoor, but these are not for your day-to-day commuter!

Now a cynical git, which none of us here are, might just say, “It’s pretty obvious Cameron is trying to buy votes in the North as well as keeping his Oxbridge mates happy – what a bloody chancer!”
