Secretary of State John Kerry suggested today that the U.S. is prepared to join forces with its ‘oldest ally’, France. This is to support their launching of air strikes against Syria as early as this weekend after the British House of Commons rejected a military intervention.
In his speech, Kerry lavished praise on the French for standing ready to join the US in confronting the ‘thug and murderer’ President Bashar al-Assad.
In what was clearly a diplomatic snub, Kerry’s address made no mention of Britain – despite the historic ‘special relationship’ between the two nations. *
Instead America was ‘confident and gratified’ it was ‘not alone’ in its will to act, he said, praising France, Australia and even Turkey for their support.
*Just a couple of historical facts to ponder:
3/9/1939 Britain declares war on Germany. 7/12/1941 US declares war on Japan.
