The Winter Solstice Sees The Gates Open At Stonehenge

Worshippers and admirers of the magic stones, maybe as many as 2000 this year, gathered at Stonehenge this morning to celebrate the winter solstice.

Unfortunately the stones were not at their best as it was grey, overcast morning but even that didn’t distract from the overall majesty of the historic site.

The occasion is to recognise the continuing cycle of the earth and how from now on the days gradually get longer as we head towards summer.
