Looks Like A Part Of Our 60’s Childhood Is About To Be Ruined

Our memory seems to recall it was a Thursday evening in the 1960’s when an exciting spy series was on the telly. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. – the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement.

It starred Robert Vaughn and our dear David McCallum who can still be seen today in the excellent NCIS {he clearly has a ‘thing’ about acronyms}. They played the secret agents Napoleon Solo {Vaughn} and Illya Kuryakin {McCallum} and their task was to pretty much save the Western world: what could be simpler? There was a British character in the shape of Mr Alexander Waverly who played, imaginatively, Number One of Section One – brilliant!

It was all wonderful tosh with smart suits, triangular badges {you had to have one}, handguns with amazing silencers and gadgets for all the clever stuff. As kids we just loved it.

So why on earth have the owners given Guy Richie permission to use the idea and come up with a film of the same name? He’s got Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer to star in the film based on the series but here is a top-tip from Thefield – try and see the original way, way before you watch any Richie effort.
