Back on 7/10/2002 Tess May gave a speech to the Tory Party in her role as chairwoman. LINK It contained a lot of old twaddle but the key part it contained was this:
There’s a lot we need to do in this party of ours. Our base is too narrow and so, occasionally, are our sympathies. You know what some people call us – The Nasty Party.
I know that’s unfair. You know that’s unfair but it’s the people out there we need to convince – and we can only do that by avoiding behaviour and attitudes that play into the hands of our opponents. No more glib moralising, no more hypocritical finger-wagging.
Today we all heard that pompous prat Michael Forlorn-Hope show just what a spiteful, nasty little man he is who almost certainly has a very, very small penis. Dodgy-Dave Cameron and Phlaccid-Phil Hammond couldn’t manage to comment on the cheap comments that he’d made and were forced to resort to scripted lines that Crosby had written for them. They were made to look even more ridiculous than normal, which takes some doing!
The Nasty, Spiteful, Vindictive Party is back in full swing and looking like those 13 years have changed nothing.
