After years of the great Cheese-Rolling Race in Gloucestershire it was cancelled in 2010. So up springs the Unofficial Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling Race! Have some of that Health & Safety!
A couple of thousand spectators watched as the 8lb wheel of cheese, Double Gloucester of course, get rolled down the steep 1:2 gradient hill. There were four events and the winners all came from the Brockworth area who chased the Real Cheeses made by Smarts Cheese just as they have been for the last 25 years.
The event itself can be traced back to the early 19th Century and does require a great deal of courage to take part. Cuts, bruises and even broken bones are just part of the event!
