A proud winner in previous years of “Best Kept Village” has pulled out of this year’s competition with frustration at the lack of support from Dorset County Council.
Local residents and the parish council have been left exasperated at large public areas of the Dorset village that have not been mowed anything like regularly enough. In some parts of the village it has been up to 5ft (1.5m) high!
A member of the parish council said, “The state of the grass on the main entranceway on the main highway, and then into the village by the church, is in such a terrible state.”
He said the parish council had been left with “no option” but to withdraw from the competition, which it has previously won awards for in 2004, 2005 and 2011.
Dorset County Council blamed daffodils for daring to grow amongst the grass as the reason for the lack of cutting. How very dare they!
