For those who are old like us at TheField the game today is a miserable version of what we all remember. Managers didn’t get sacked if they lost 3 games in a row. We had a centre-half who was quite happy to put the opponent’s star striker into Row F, an inside left who didn’t fall over if somebody touched him and we had footballing geniuses like Johan Cruyff.
Everybody wanted to win but that wasn’t the most important thing, not for some of us. It really was about the Process and not all about the Result. Young fans today will find that difficult to believe. That is their loss, not ours.
The Netherlands footballing great Johan Cruyff was just 68.
