Having scored 417 in their first innings, India required just 104 to win the third test and take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Joe Root and Haseeb Hameed put up some resistance scoring 78 and 59, respectfully, but it just wasn’t enough. Needing just 104 to win Parthiv Patel came in and cracked 67 from 54 balls in what is really a Test Match. A run rate like that belongs in a 20/20 match.
It’s hard to know where England go from here as they do seem to struggle in every department at the moment. The old excuse went out the window when Cook won the toss this time but only managed 283 when the wicket was ‘at its best’. India went in and scored 417 – bugger!
As things stand England will do well not to lose the remaining matches on this tour. Now there’s one hell of a Christmas for them to look forward to!
