Romelu Lukaku has left Everton for Manchester United for the initial payment of £75 million. Wayne Rooney jumped on the return bus and left Manchester United to return to Everton on a free-transfer.
His boss Jose Mourinho said, “Romelu is a natural fit for Manchester United. He is a big personality and a big player,”
“It is only natural that he wants to develop his career at the biggest club.
“He will be a great addition to the group. I am really looking forward to working with him again.”
His transfer fee of £75m makes him the most expensive British only transfer ever but he is still short of the Paul Pugba transfer from Juventus to Manchester United for £89m.
Rooney has moved after playing 559 times for Man United and becoming their record goalscorer with 253 goals. His new manager, Ronald Koeman, was, unsurprisingly, full of praise for his new signing, “The experience of Wayne is really important to bring over to the rest of the players. He is an example for the younger players. I think we have missed a player like Wayne to have that experience in the team.”
